VIVID NEWS: An Update on the New Doctor Who Movie

What in space time is the go with this new Doctor Who movie the world has gone mad over?

Let’s start from the beginning.

Last month, it was reported that Harry Potter director David Yates was collaborating with BBC LA on a new Doctor Who movie. This new movie was to take a clean slate approach to the Who story.

Some fans rejoiced. Other fans wiped away their tears and started sharpening their weapons.

Then a tweet came out from BBC’s Edward Russell saying: “Off Twitter for a few hours and the Doctor Who world explodes. There’s always talk of a movie. Perhaps? Maybe one day. But not right now!

Despite the BBC UK denying the development of a new Doctor Who movie, the BBC LA continued to report it was all happening.

According to The Doctor Who Magazine, there is no reality to a new Doctor Who movie.

“To those hearing Doctor Who movie rumours, it’s just the same rumours which have been going round for years. Nothing’s currently happening!… The day Doctor Who undergoes a ‘radical transformation’ as a movie is the day DWM undergoes a radical transformation as a car boot sale.” Doctor Who Magazine, Originally Quoted on Giant Freakin Robot.

So, apparently there is no new Doctor Who movie. Someone should really let David Yates know, as Cinemablend is reporting, Yates continues to take about his directorial role with a new Doctor Who Movie.

I would personally love to see a Doctor Who movie. Doctor Who is a franchise that is built on the idea of having different versions of the same character, not unlike James Bond.  It would have to be done right of course, which means done by the BBC.  With all of this, to borrow from The Doctor, wibbly wobbly news going around it seems highly unlikely it will be happening at all.
